Plan to connect Ahmedabad with Shirdi by Air.New Airstrips /
Helipads on the Anvil in GujaratJumana Shah /
22nd February`2010 Gandhinagar :
The Gujarat government’s new civil aviation policy shall focus on intra-state connectivity and on improving the airstrips and helipads in the state.Sources in the government said the policy, which is almost ready, will soon be finalised. The focus in the new policy is on building an intra-state aviation infrastructure and on giving small airlines incentives to encourage them to operate within the state. The mission of the policy is to bring the state’s aviation environment “in accordance with international standards”. A statutory autonomous Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will be constituted to implement the policy effectively.“Gujarat has 27 airstrips, the maximum in the country,” a senior source in the government said. “There are around seven to eight helipads in the state. We are planning to double their number. The new policy will give private airlines incentives such as tax deduction on ATF,
operational ease and guarantee of maximum traffic to encourage them to ply on short routes. It will make it feasible to operate 40-seater aircraft in the state.”The official further said that it is important to connect business hubs like Surat and Bhavnagar, and pilgrimage spots like Palitana, Dwarka, Somnath, and Ambaji with Ahmedabad. “There is a plan to build a helipad at Palitana, and also to connect Ahmedabad with Shirdi,” the official added.According to the draft policy, encouragement will be given to development and construction of small airstrips, helipads and heliports in the private sector. Foreign equity participation is being considered and may be allowed up to 74 % with automatic approval,
and up to 100 % with special permission.

Our tradition is to offer Arathi - the ceremony of circling a tray of lights before a saint or a deity at the end of worship while chanting a hymn. It is offered as a sign of surrender of soul to God who protects the universe. The holy camphor is synonymous with God and people respect it. In Shirdi, Arathi is given four times a day to Baba amidst the holy chants and playing of musical instruments. At dawn, the devotees pray to Baba as Father, Mother and Guru and offer Kakada Arathi by lighting a lamp with five oil-doused wicks. They seek His blessings and protection. At 12.00 noon, Akhand Arathi is offered in a similar manner and the sanctified food is partaken. At dusk, praying for serenity, they offer Dhoop Arathi with only one wick. This is also known as evening twilight Arathi. Sej Arathi is offered at 10' clock in the night after the devotees have completed the day's work from morning to evening. They offer the Arathi with five oil wicks and dedicate the day's deeds, seeking forgiveness for any mis-deeds done and rest in the cool shade of Baba's grace. Baba's face that normally glows with the natural kindness will be sparkling like the combined Sun-Moon glow at the time of Arathi, assuring and raising His protective hand for the Universal Well-Being.
