Ugadi is the New Year (Lunar New Year) for Telugu and Kannada speaking people and it ushers in the spring season. In 2010, the date of Ugadi is March 16. Ugadi (yuga and adi) means beginning of an astronomical cycle. It is also the first day of Chaitra, the first month of the traditional Hindu calendar followed in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Ugadi is also known as Chadramana Ugadi or Chandramana Varsha Thodaku or Vatsara Arambha.
For the Telugu and Kannada speaking people, Ugadi day begins with an extensive oil bath. Rangolis or Kolams are drawn in front of homes and doors and windows are decorated with a 'thorana' - mango leaves strung together. Then, it is time for the preparation of the famous ‘Ugadi Pachadi’ in Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, it is the ‘Bevu Bella.’ A major event on the day is “Panchanga Sravanam” – predictions for the year. It is organized at temples and by cultural and social organizations.
Ugadi Pachadi which is distributed on the day is a unique dish with a mixture of six tastes ranging from sweet to bitter. It comprises of jaggery, raw mango, tamarind, neem flowers, salt and green chilli. This is the first dish that people have on Ugadi day.
Ugadi Pachadi has an important symbolic meaning that life brings different experiences ranging from sweet to bitter. Therefore each individual should learn to take the different experiences in one's stride and move ahead.
Instead of the Ugadi Pachadi, in some places people serve jaggery mixed with neem leaves. The bitter taste of neem leaves and the sweet of jaggery symbolize joy and sorrow in life. This is more popular with Kannadigas.
Maharashtrians celebrate Gudhi Padwa on the day.

Ignoring Baba is Sinful
To err is human. Although we commit a mistake in hurry, we have to admit it, repent for it and resolve to correct our behaviour. We do mistakes in a fit of anger. But, if we have devotion and faith in God, we can slowly change ourselves. Without devotion we would not believe in sin and merit. Baba used to mend the evil mind of those who came to Him and put them on the right path. Baba took pity on those who arrogantly justified their wrong doings, set their minds right and put them on the path of upright conduct. The wife of an atheist was a pious lady. But, her husband did not respect her deep spirituality. He was angry at his wife as he thought she neglected his comforts and attended to Baba's worship. Baba should have got angry with the behaviour of the husband. But He did not, as his wife was His devotee and prayed to Him to pardon her husband and mend him. Baba decided to fulfil His devotee's desire. The reason for hatred towards God is ignorance, pride and attachment. All these three things will alienate man from God. One who prides himself and thinks that none would match him may get scared when faced by problems and troubles. It is indeed the play of Baba to humble the human pride. Devotees like Sapatnekar, who did not believe in Baba, later sought refuge at the feet of Baba.

Chalo Bhulaava Aaya Hai - Sai Ne Mujhe Bulaayaa Hai
Its just one week remaining and I will be leaving for India on the 18th of March 2010. One more time, I am making plans to be in Shirdi on the 24th of March during the Shri Ramnavami festival. Ofcourse, we can just make plans but the final command for me to come to Shirdi comes from our Shri Sadguru Sainath. And like always, I hope and pray that I am able to visit His sacred Samadhi mandir and all my other favourite temples in and out of Shirdi..
Like every year, Sai Seva arranges for the medications for all the Padhyatris travelling by foot from Mumbai/ Pune to Shirdi. Bandages, Antibiotic ointments, fever meds, pain killers,Anti Nausea meds , B- Complex etc etc will be distributed free of cost to padhyatris in the special camps which are set up for the benefit of all the devotees who come on foot to go to Shirdi. This year, I will be there personally to be a part of it. To know more about Sai Seva or to be a part of this Sai Seva and donate towards this noble deed- you can go to http://www.saiseva.omsrisai.net/

With the discretionary power gifted by God, begin your work and go ahead with firm faith. He alone provides us with required power and needed skill. But the work should be accomplished well on time and without delay. As you go on executing the work, God grants you with enough energy. Baba would again gift us the strength to bear the troubles encountered at work with patience. One need not doubt as to what would happen tomorrow. Because whatever happens will happen according to God's Will. You know that Baba helped you and yet you entertain thoughts of doubt. Despite many doubts, trust in God, whole-heartedly, who always helps you. Sai assured Sathe, "have complete faith and devotion towards Me. I shall grant you all the physical and spiritual wealth that you need".If you know that Baba always loves you and shoulders the responsibility of caring the welfare of your kith and kin, there is nothing to worry about tomorrow. Baba is lending His helping hand to you. Have faith in Baba and move on the Sai Path. Your faith would multiply with the help and support provided to you by Baba at every stage. It would lighten your heart with delight. When all things are smoothly accomplished, your faith in Baba, the Doer, will get reinforced. This very faith in Baba will remove all hurdles in the journey of your life.
