One step closer to Brahma Gyaan

One step closer to Brahma gyan:::: A 'devotee' goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to the Temple . 'I've gone for 30 years now, he wrote, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 mantras. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the Gurus are wasting theirs by giving services at all. This started a real controversy in the 'Letters to the Editor' column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to the Temple for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today! When you are DOWN to nothing.... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment! ------------------------------ So easy to beat yourself up over mistakes you've made. So many amongst us live in the past rather than loving the present and building a brilliant future. Some people stay stuck for years over something they did or a failure they've experienced. Sad. A life is a terrible thing to waste. But let me ask you a question: "is there really such a thing as a mistake?" First of all, no one tries to fail or mess things up. Every one of us wakes up in the morning, walks out into the world and does the best we can do based on what we know and the skills we have. But even more importantly, every so-called "mistake' is actually a rich source of learning. An opportunity to build more awareness and understanding and gain precious experience. Experience that will help us do, feel and be even better. So, just maybe, there are no mistakes. Just maybe what we could call failures are actually growth lessons in wolf's clothing. And just maybe the person who experiences the most wins. ---------------------- A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to Leave the examination room and said, 'Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side.' Very quietly, the doctor said, 'I don't know.' 'You don't know? You, a Christian man, Do not know what is on the other side?' The doctor was holding the handle of the door; On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, 'Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, But I do know one thing... I know my Master is there and that is enough.' ------------------------------- A boy and a girl were playing together. The boy had a collection of marbles. The girl had some sweets with her. The boy told the girl that he will give her all his marbles in exchange for her sweets. The girl agreed. The boy kept the biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave the rest to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had promised. That night, the girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldn't sleep as he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from him the way he had hidden his best marble. Moral of the story: If you don't give your hundred percent in a relationship, you'll always keep doubting if the other person has given his/her hundred percent.. This is applicable for any relationship like love, employer-employee relationship, friendship etc., Give your hundred percent to everything you do and sleep peacefully ---------------------- The tragedy of life is not death, but what we let die inside us while we live. When u were born, the world rejoiced while u cried,-live ur life in such a way that when you die,-the world cries while u rejoice.. -------------------------------- Your days are your life in miniature. As you live your days, so you craft your life. What you do today is actually creating your future. The words you speak, the thoughts you think, the food you eat and the actions you take are defining your destiny – shaping who you are becoming and what your life will stand for. There's no such thing as an unimportant day. Each of us is called to greatness. Each of us has an exquisite power within us. But for this power to grow, we need to use it. The more you exercise it each day, the stronger it gets. The more this power gets tapped, the more confident you grow. The best among us are not more gifted than the rest. They just take small steps each day as they march towards their biggest life. And the days slip into weeks, the weeks into months and before they know it, they arrive at a place called Extraordinary. ----------------------------- If you can not respect , love , care about ,stand by or be honest with your own parents ,-who gave birth to you and were the very first people who fell in love with you -- then whether you accept this or not but you do not love anyone else in this world either with all your heart and soul ....and time will show that none of your children will stand by you either- when you will need them the most.. ----------------------------------- If you sit with a person who is smoking, even without ur knowledge- You will end up inhaling second hand smoke. In the same way, if you be in the company of saints who constantly preach about the importance of doing good karma-, automatically even without ur knowledge- u will end up doing a lot of positive and humble deeds. If you be in the company of a person who keeps saying bad words and abusing others then then obviously whether u like it or not -- u will end up being the same kind of person sooner or later. And if u constantly listen to Gods name, his praises, his bhajans-even without you being aware of it - the words that will come out of your mouth will be nothing but the nectar of love and bliss. So be in the company of God and even without your knowledge-You will find him seated in your heart - talking to you and finding solutions to ur problems and worries. You just need to take one step towards Him and He will take 100 steps towards you.. By Deepa H inspired by Sai -------------------------------------------- Always tell someone that you love them because you never know what day Will be their last, or your own. Always seek to resolve your problems or disagreements with loved ones Because if either of you should pass on before, the one who is left alive will have the rest of their life to ponder those unresolved feelings but will never find closure. And closure usually brings Peace... ......................................................................................With lots of good wishes and regards to all from Deepa H and family [ debu7366@yahoo.com ] ...............May Sai always give us peace of mind and May he always make us feel His presence where ever we go.... CHAPTER 12::::PATH OF DEVOTION
Jai: Should we worship or meditate every day, Grandma, or just on Sundays?
Grandma: Children should do some form of worship, prayer, or meditation everyday. Good habits must be formed early.
Jai: You said that God is formless but also has forms. Should I worship God as Rāma, Krishna, Shiva, Durgā, or should I worship a formless God?
Grandma: Arjuna asked Lord Krishna the same question in the Gita. (Gita 12.01) Krishna told Arjuna that worship of God with a form with faith is easier and better for most people, especially for beginners. But a true devotee has faith in everything: the formless God, and God with a form, such as Rāma, Krishna, Hanumāna, Shiva, and the Divine Mother Kāli, Durgā.
Jai: How should I worship, Grandma?
Go to the worship or meditation room before going to school and pray. Sit straight, close your eyes, take a few slow and deep breaths, remember your IshtaDeva and ask his or her blessing. Focusing your mind on your IshtaDeva with eyes closed is called meditation. You may also silently repeat a mantra such as ‘OM’ or ‘Rām, Rām, Rām, Rām, Rām’ a few times.
Jai: When I start to meditate, I can’t concentrate my mind, Grandma. My mind starts to go everywhere. What should I do?
Grandma: Don’t worry, this even happens to adults. Try to concentrate or focus again and again. With practice, you will be able to focus your mind well, not only on God but also on your study materials. This will help you get good grades. You can also pray to God and worship by offering fruits, flowers, etc. to your IshtaDeva with love. Also, remember the Lord of learning, such as Lord Ganesha, Hanumāna, or Mother Sarasvati before starting your studies. Don’t be selfish. Work hard. Accept the results of your work without getting upset by bad results. Try to learn from your failures. Never give up and improve yourself.
Jai: Is that all I have to do, Grandma? Did Krishna say anything else?
Grandma: You should also develop good habits such as obeying your parents, helping others in need, not hurting anybody, being friendly to all, saying sorry or asking forgiveness if you hurt anyone, keeping your mind calm, being grateful to those who have helped you, and saying thank you. God loves and helps those who act in this way. Such people are called devotees or Bhakta. (Gita 12.13-19) If you don’t have any one of these good habits, try hard to develop them. (Gita 12.20)
Jai: Is it possible for a child to be a Bhakta?
Grandma: I already told you the story of Dhruva. Now I will tell you the story of another child Bhakta. His name was Prahlāda.
15. The Story of Bhakta Prahlāda
Hiranyakasipu was the king of demons. He performed a very difficult spiritual practice, and Lord Brahmā gave him a boon that he could not be slain by man or beast. The boon made him arrogant, and he terrorized all the three worlds, saying that there were no gods other than himself and everybody must worship him.
He had a son named Prahlāda, a religious child who always worshipped Lord Vishnu. This angered his father greatly; he wanted to drive the thought of Vishnu from his son’s mind, so he turned him over a strict teacher to train him to worship only Hiranyakasipu as God and not Vishnu.
Prahlāda not only refused to listen to the teacher, but started teaching the other students to worship Vishnu. The teacher was very angry and reported this to the King.
The King burst into his son’s room, and shouted, “I hear you have been worshipping Vishnu!”
Trembling, Prahlāda said softly, “Yes father, I have.”
“Promise me that you will not do that again!” demanded the king.
“I cannot promise,” Prahlāda immediately answered.
“Then I will have you killed,” shouted the King.
“Not unless it is the wish of Lord Vishnu,” replied the child.
The King tried his best to get Prahlāda to change his mind, but nothing worked.
He then ordered his guards to throw Prahlāda into the ocean, hoping that would frighten Prahlāda into promising not to worship Vishnu anymore. But Prahlāda remained loyal to Vishnu and kept praying to Him in his heart with love and devotion. Guards tied him to a huge rock and threw him into the ocean. By God’s grace, the rock fell away and Prahlāda floated safely to the surface of the water. He was surprised to see Vishnu on the shore.
Vishnu smiled at him and said, “Ask me anything you want.”
Prahlāda, replied, “I don’t want kingdom, wealth, heaven, or a long life. I just want the strength to always love You and never turn my mind away from You.”
Lord Vishnu granted Prahlāda’s wishes.
When Prahlāda returned to his father’s palace, the King was stunned to see him alive.
“Who brought you out of the sea?” he demanded.
“Lord Vishnu,” said the child, simply.
“Do not say that name before me,” shouted his father. “Where is your Lord Vishnu? Show him to me,” he challenged.
“He is everywhere,” replied the child.
“Even in this pillar?” asked the King.
“Yes, even in this Pillar!” replied Prahlāda confidently.
“Then let him appear before me in whatever form he wants,” cried Hiranyakasipu and broke the pillar with his iron club.
Out from within the pillar jumped a being called Narasimha, who was half man and half lion. Hiranyakasipu, stood helplessly before him. Frightened, he called out for help, but none came.
Narasimha picked up Hiranyakasipu and placed him on his lap, where he mauled his body and tore it apart. Thus Hiranyakasipu met his end.
God blessed Prahlāda for the deep faith he placed in Him. After the death of Hiranyakasipu, demons were crushed, and the Devas took over the world once again from demons. To this day, the name of Prahlāda is counted among the great devotees.

Chapter 12 summary: The path of devotional love of God is very easy to practice. This path consists of daily deity worship, offering fruits and flowers, singing hymns (Bhajans) in praise of the glory of God, and developing certain good habits.
Baba never Casts Burdens which We cannot Bear
God is an ocean of compassion. He is well aware of our physical and mental capacities. So, He will never cast on us burdens which we cannot bear. When a particular work is meant to be done by us, it would mean that Baba has complete faith in our capability to accomplish the task. On the other hand, if we fail to complete a project, it does mean that we have little faith in Baba. Fickle-minded as we are, we leave our own work and get involved in other's work and incur loss. Then we start blaming God for the resultant outcome. Ego-bloated, we think we can accomplish any task and thus we get unnecessarily involved in others work, fail miserably and get humiliated. Why do we behave like that? We have to introspect and make a self-audit of our shortcomings and wrong-doings. We should never fall victims to internal enemies like envy, pride and hate in our greed to look great in the public eye. In a state of humility of heart, we can prostrate before Baba and apologize for our wrong doings. By realizing our mistakes, we can accomplish either simpler or complex tasks with discipline and responsibility. Every work done in constant remembrance of Sai's Name may grant us peace and relaxation, but will never seem burdensome. Baba entrusts us with such tasks which we can accomplish with our abilities and with ease.
Of what use are wealth and position if one has no peace of mind? A quiet conscience is man's most precious possession. To achieve inner peace, desires have to be subdued and all thoughts should be centered on God. Engage yourselves in service activities in a spirit of dedication. True service consists in helping the poor and the forlorn in the society with humility and dedication. This is service to the Divine. Practice the saying - "Dil me Ram, Hath me Kaam." (Serve with your hands having installed God in the heart). Do not hanker after power and pelf. Know that seva (service) is a better form of Sadhana (Spiritual Exercise) than even dhyana (meditation); how can God appreciate the dhyana you do, when you do not make any efforts to alleviate the suffering of your neighbour? Do not keep yourself aloof, intent on your own salvation. Move among your brothers and sisters, looking for opportunities to help them, while at the same time, having the Name of God on the tongue and the Form of God before your mind's eye. That is the highest sadhana. Proceed in that spirit, God's Grace will be showered on you in full measure.
Good Thought: “Nearness to God is sustained by the twin virtues of gentleness and humility.”
