How Baba Solved Bhau Sahib Arnalkar’s Crisis
Bhau Sahib Arnalkar was an advocate by profession, and resided in Mumbai. At that time his friends often visited Pandarpur, and hardly anyone knew about Baba. But as he was an advocate, he happened to meet Dabolkar and Dev Mamlatdar, and a close friendship developed.Around that time Dabolkar was gathering leelas and material to write the Sat Charita, and he along with Dev often visited Shirdi. Hence
they often narrated Baba’s wonderful leelas to Bhau Sahib.Consequently, he became devoted to Baba and was eager to visit Shirdi.
At that point in time most people thought that Baba was a Muslim Saint. However Arnalkar had no doubt that Baba
was God Almighty, and hence a devotee could easily open his heart before his chosen deity. At that time Bhau had a financial crisis and he had no money for his daily expenses. Prior to
commencing his journey, Bhau had made up his mind that he would go to Shirdi and seek refuge at the feet of his Lord. In his mind he rehearsed what he would say, and time and again he reassured himself thinking, “If a devotee does not tell his troubles and sorrows to God, then who will he tell them to?” With this firm resolve in his mind he set out to Shirdi.
Upon reaching Shirdi, he went to the Dwarka Mai and
with utter devotion he prostrated before Baba. On this visit Bhau stayed in Shirdi for three days. He frequently went to the DwarkaMai but on every occasion there were numerous devotees around Baba, and at no time was Baba alone. Consequently Bhau could not open his heart to him. Bhau was
ashamed to tell Baba his problems in the presence of other devotees. On the 4th day Baba called him, made him sit close to him and said, “You should leave now. Don’t you have any family or relatives?” Immediately Bhau placed his head on
Baba’s feet, and overcome by emotion, he was unable to speak. Now Bhau thought, “It is a custom in Shirdi that no one can stay a minute longer when Baba asks them to leave. But I had to tell Baba my problems and was unable to do so. Now I had
better leave.” Disappointed, he started walking towards the exit, when Baba called out to him. Baba asked him, “Bhau how much money do you have?” Bhau’s spirits lifted and he thought,
“Great! Baba himself has brought up the topic of money.” Bhau told him that he had three rupees and some annas, and the money was sufficient for his return journey. Then Baba asked
him to give him that entire sum of money, saying, “Give me that money. Arre! Even a fakir needs money.” Quietly, Bhau handed the money to him. Baba said, “The tonga is outside waiting for you Hurry up and go.”
Disappointed, Bhau went to the waiting tonga. The driver was an acquaintance, so he made place for Bhau, although the tonga was full. The driver didn’t take any fare from him as his tonga was filled with passengers. Soon, they reached the
station. Now how was he to reach Mumbai? Travelling without a ticket was an offence.With these thoughts he was waiting on the platform, when the train for Mumbai arrived. From the bogie that was in front of him, someone called out, “Vakil Sahib, come into this bogie.” The bogie was a 2nd class bogie, and like a robot, Bhau entered it. The person who had called out to him was an old friend of his, who was a Railway Officer. Bhau confessed that he did not have a ticket. His friend said, “When I am travelling with you to Mumbai why do you worry? By Baba’s grace we have met after so many months.” Together they had a comfortable journey and reached Mumbai.
Upon alighting from the train his friend went off somewhere.At the exit there was a Railway Officer checking the tickets, and he would not move away from the gate. Just then two
rustic villagers entered the station, pushing the officer out of the way. They came straight to Bhau and handed him a bagthat contained three hundred rupees in it. Then one of the men said, “Vakil Sahib, I had come here to meet this friend of
mine. But by Baba’s grace I met you here. After three days my case is scheduled to start, so please take this money, otherwise I would have to come all the way to Vasai, to give you the fees.”
Bhau was speechless, as Baba had remedied his problem silently and appropriately.
Like the advocate Bhau Sahib Arnalkar, we also have crises in our spiritual journey to reach Baba. However he removes all the obstructions or obstacles from the path by taking away the root cause, and makes us penniless (taintless)
*Once he makes us pure, he then makes the necessary arrangements for our progress.Our duty is to follow his orders like a robot
*Once we follow his orders he blesses us to manage the trigunas (the three subtle components) for our future progress and advancement
