Since the last few days, I have been wanting to publish something regarding Guru Nanak Devji ..Deep in my heart, I have always believed that these messages and the stories or the pictures posted in them, are purely the work of Sai's grace.. The time and the message both are chosen by him by all means. It is either a message for some devotee of His who is looking for answers or perhaps, It is me who Baba wishes to teach something.Whatever the case may be...... But yesterday when I sat down to compose this mail- I had this urge to know about Guru Nanak. So I started with my laptop but it was not long until I found out that there is so much to know about Guru Nanak that everything will not fit in one mail..As I went on reading about Him, His stories, His miracles, His teachings, His philosophy and much more , I realized that He is so much like our Shri Sadguru Sainath. Just reading about Him makes one feel blessed and I am sure understanding and following His teachings will make us all go one step closer to our creator. There is so much for me to share about Him so I am going to take it very slowly and describe to you about Guru Nanak devji's life in a way that you can share this with your children and grand children. So keep forwarding these mails to Your loved ones and let them also feel the bliss of Guru Nanak ji.

Guru Nanak now set out to Mecca in Arabia. Mecca is the holy place of the Muslims. The Guru travelled to Surat, a small seaport near Bombay. From there, Guru Nanak and Mardana went to Arabia in a ship. After a few weeks they reached Mecca. There is a very big Mosque in Mecca. Guru Nanak and Mardana were very tired after long travels. They went to the mosque and lay down to take rest. Guru Nanak's feet were towards the Kaaba in the mosque.
The Kaaba is a room in the middle of the mosque and is called, 'The house of God (Allah).'
A man named Rukandin was the priest of the Kaaba. He came out and saw Guru Nanak's feet towards the Kaba. He was very angry. He at once shouted.

"Don't you know this is the house of God, you fool?
Why are you lying with your feet towards the Kaaba?"
Guru Nanak woke up. He said, "O sir, I'm sorry I didn't know it. I was tired so I just lay down and fell asleep. Could you turn my legs to the side in which there's no God?"

Rukandin at once caught hold of his legs and dragged them to the other side. He saw that the Kaaba still stood before Guru Nanak's feet. Then he gave another pull but to his great surprise, he saw the Kaaba again towards the Guru's feet. He was so upset that he could not speak.
Guru Nanak said, "Rukandin. God does not live in one place. He lives everywhere." Saying this, Guru Nanak and Mardana started singing hymns. A crowd of people gathered around them. They called Guru Nanak, 'Baba Nanak'. 'Baba' means an old and wise man.

After a few days they went to Medina and Baghdad. At Baghdad a Muslim saint Behlol met the Guru. They had a long talk and became friends. Behlol asked Baba Nanak,
"What is your idea of God?"
Guru Nanak replied, "There is one God. He is True. He makes everything. He is not afraid of anyone. He is not born. He never dies. He is self-made. We need only think of Him and pray to Him."
Behlol liked the Guru's teaching very much. He travelled a lot and told the people about this idea of Guru. After some time Guru Nanak and Mardana came back to the Punjab.

Story of Guru Nanak and Sajjan Rogue
On one of his journeys, Guru Nanak Dev ji met a Rogue named Sajjan. Sajjan always wore a white dress, displayed his rosary and thus posed to be a holyman. He had built a Hindu temple and a Muslim mosque at the courtyard of his residence. He would invite way farers to his residence to rest for the night. But at night, he would take away their goods and money and would kill them. He had a well near his house where he would dump the bodies of the guest he killed. The Guru went and stayed with him for the night. At night the Guru did not go to bed, which made Sajjan nervous to perform his nefarious act of robbing. Sajjan asked the Guru to take rest and sleep but

Sajjan asked the Guru to take rest and sleep but
Guru ji replied,"God's minstrel does not go to sleep, till God sends word that he should retire."
“Houses, mansions, palaces painted on all sides, are left hollow within when thy breath stops. You posses wealth and assets, nothing shall go along with you but the sins you commit. You call yourself clever and smart, but you are unaware that in a moment you shall die. You have not remembered the name of Lord, and are completely drenched in money. You have not loved the one who gave you the body and wealth. And when the death comes you shall tremble helplessly. Have you sung the praises of Lord; He would have been your support and the time of your death.”
When Sajjan listened the Divine melody, he realized that Guru ji’s words were actually addressed to him. Upon this he made his obeisance and fell at the Guru ji’s feet, and prayed to him to pardon his sins.
Guru ji said, "Sajjan, in the Sovereignty of God, grace is obtained by two things, open confession and reparation for wrong."
Sajjan stood in submission. Guru Nanak Dev ji asked him to give all his ill-gotten wealth to the poor. He obeyed the mandate and became a follower of the Guru.
Story of Guru Nanak Dev Ji And Kalyug Pandit
During his first preaching odyssey Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji he reached Jagannath Puri via Cuttack. Enroute, he apprised the masses of his ideology, freed people from superstitions and infructiuous deeds, caste based differences and freeing them from the shackles of fake hermits and Yogis. This incident took place in 1510. A Brahmin named ‘Kalyug’ had made his abode there. He was a learned man beside being very rich. Many pilgrims were his followers and often stayed in his Dera (Camp).
This Pandit was swindling the gullible people who were not aware of what the true religion was. Many rich persons who visited him were more interested in knowing about their future life or the life hereafter. They would feel happy listening to good and favourable stories about themselves. Pleased with such fables, they would make handsome offerings to him.
In Jagannath Puri, where Satguru ji condemned the ritualistic. Aarti (A form of prayer in temples), he also unmasked the deeds of ‘Kalyug’ pandit. Kalyug Pandit was sitting in meditative mood while many devotees were surrounding him. He had a small pitcher like metallic container placed in his front in which the pilgrims were putting their offerings. He would close his eyes for sometime and open them again. Sometimes he would close one of his nostrils, either right or left with his hand. Then he would suddenly declare that he is seeing Vishnu Bhagwan in the heaven. Similarly he would claim an audience with other gods and his visits to Brahmpuri (Abode of Brahma) and Shivpuri (Abode of Shivji). The devotees were listening to all his claims with rapt silence and expected that soon he would take them to the divine trip too. He then asked all those present to shut their eyes and perceive the heaven in their minds, and he would help them see it.
When all those present there closed their eyes, Guru ji signalled Bhai Mardana to pick up the small pitcher like container from his front and hide it behind him in a bush. When the ‘Pandit’ opened his eyes, he did not see the container in his front. He was beside himself with rage and started shouting loudly and asking who had taken his small container. “Don’t crack jokes with the Saints. We don’t crave for money... etc.”, he said.
The pilgrims in his attendance were also surprised. Hearing his shouts, many more people gathered around.

Guru ji steped forward and said, “Pandit ji, you were able to see Brahmpuri, Shivpuri and Vishnupuri, why don’t you look around in this Universe ? You may be able to locate where the container is lying”.
Hearing these remarks the ‘Panda’ vexed still more. Some present also said, “Pandit ji, you were seeing the divine abode but now you can’t find your small pitcher. How could it be ?”
People understood the deceit of the Pandit. Guru ji well disclosed his beguile and advised people that those who sit in meditative postures, closing their eyes, nose and ears were not to be trusted. They were like herons who stood still on one leg in the water to pounce upon at fish and frogs. Here was that ‘Pandit’ who could see the divine abodes but could not spot his money container lying behind him. Guru ji further explained that these were the tricks used by the imposters to swindle people of their hard earned money.

Satguru ji explained to all the pilgrims that one may succeed in collecting money by closing eyes, nose, ears and sitting still like a heron, but it can neither lift the character of a man nor raise his spiritual life.
This human life is not meant to be wasted in such spurious and fake acts. Remembering God is the right path of this life. Perpetual meditation of His name relieves a man from the worldly desires.

Kalyug Pandit was highly impressed by the personality of Guru ji and his sermons. He requested Guru ji to honour him with his stay in his abode. Guru ji agreed and during this period apprised him with his idealogy. He was then appointed as a missionary by Guru Nanak to spread his message; whereas he used to swindle the people earlier, now he was teaching them to follow the right path of life as dictated by the Guru.
The place where Guru ji stayed in front of the temple, it still exists and is named
‘Mangu Math’.
Puri, commonly called Jagannath Puri after the famous Hindu Temple of Jagannath, was visited by Guru Nanak Dev in 1509 during his eastern travels. He preached against idolatry and exhorted the people to sing praises of the One God, who is Formless and yet all forms are His. Gurdwara Baoli Sahib and Mangu Math served by Udasi priests commemorate the Guru's visit. These were first established by Bhai Almast, the notable Udasi preacher, during the middle of the seventeenth century.
Guru Nanak during his travels came to Jagan Nath Puri. It is a very important place of pilgrimage for Hindus, situated on the sea shore, touching the Bay of Bengal. Lord Krishna and Vishnu are worshipped here as Jagan Natha, the Lords of the universe. Here a special kind of idol worship is performed with the usual formalities. It is known as Aarti. It is said that in the evening when the priests performed Aarti, Guru Nanak stood there as a silent spectator as if nothing was happening. He came out in the open and sang the following hymn:
"The entire sky is the silver plate. The Moon and the Sun are lamps. The luminous stars are studded in it like jewels. The wind was the scent of all flowers on earth. Thus worship performed, O Thou the destroyer of births!
And the unstruck melody of his word ringeth through the universe. Millions are Thy eyes and yet Thou has no eye. Millions are Thy feet and yet Thou has no feet, Millions are Thy noses and yet Thou has no nose, and through the Guru's instruction this light is illuminated, Oh people! that alone is worship that pleaseth my Lord. Like the honey is to bee, my mind cherishes the honey of His Lotus feet. Oh Lord! allay the thirst of Nanak, thy Sarang, 0h Lord of Bliss! So that he merges in His Name'.'
At the place where Guru Nanak sang the above mentioned hymn, a Gurdwara called Mangu Math now stands in his memory.
A Gurdwara Mangu Math stands near the Jagannath temple in the memory of the Gurus visit there. There is a well of water near the sea shore; the water from this well was used by the Guru during his stay there. This is the only well which has sweet and palatable water. This Located next to the Emar Math, this math is associated with the Guru Nanak sect. The math provides a sacrificial ram to be offered to Goddess Bimala on the annual Maha Navami night.

and is located on the Ambala-Kaithal Road, near the Bus Stand. It is twenty seven kms from Kaithal, fifty kms from Ambala and twenty seven kms from Kurukshetra. It Has a main Building with a Sarovar, Bhora Sahib (a meditation chamber in the basement), Diwan hall and a Darshani deori (entrance passage) has been constructed here. A museum, langar hall and guest house have also been constructed.
When Guru Nanak came here, the local pandits enjoyed absolute hegemony. They had by their religious tricks kept the people under sway. They would loot the devotees who came to this place. They had made a gold ear-ring of the size of a chariot wheel and thrown it into the river Saraswati. This they would show to the devotees and claim that when the Mata was taking a bath in the river at night, her ear-ring fell into the water and during the course of the night, it grew to such a size.
When Guru Nanak Dev Ji came to know of this, he admonished them by saying that while it was fine that by their ruse, the gains from public offerings had multiplied, but that they should think of was the multiplication of the sins of those who used this money to spend on festivities.
The pandits had no answer to this.
Soon the pandits realized their mistake and sought forgiveness from the Guru. Guru Nanak Dev stayed here for a long time. He spent his time meditating and preaching to the people.
As fragrance abides in the flower As reflection is within the mirror, So does your Lord abide within you, Why search for him without ? Soon the pandits realized their mistake and sought forgiveness from the Guru. Guru Nanak Dev stayed here for a long time. He spent his time meditating and preaching to the people.
Guru Nanak
God-Given Riches for Good Deeds.
Baba narrated a short story to tell us the truth that human birth is caused by merits and sins of our past lives. Some villagers collected donations for renovating a Shiva temple and gave the amount to a rich man of the village. Utterly miserly, he spent a little amount to renovate the temple and pocketed the rest. Some more donations were collected and handed over, but the rich miser once again repeated the act. He even showed his devout wife's gold ornaments as bought for a low price, but utilized them for personal needs instead of temple use. He reaped the sin and died, struck by a fatal thunder-bolt. He took re-birth in a Brahmin family as Veerbhadrappa. To reap her sins, his wife who died along with him, once again became his wife. The woman Dubaki was born as a man by name Chenbassappa in a temple attendent's family. Veerbhadrappa, who embezzled the funds meant for the temple took re-birth as a snake and Chenbassappa, who got cheated of his mortgaged land by Veerbhadrappa, was born as a frog. Baba who promised to save the life of Chenbassappa, allowed the Karmic cycle work out itself, appeared at the right time and commanded the snake-born Veerbhadrappa not to swallow Chenbassappa, the frog-born. The moral of the story is: one has to reap what one sows and the God-gifted wealth must be used for good causes.
