Early every morning Nanak loved take a bath in the nearby river. He would clean himself with the cold water and then he would meditate. The time was coming for Nanak’s life to change in a big way. All his life he only cared about God. When he was born, the astrologer predicted that he would be a great man that Hindus and Muslims would both love. Soon it would be nanak’s time to go out and deliver his destiny.
One day as he was meditating many kinds of demons came to him and tried to scare him. He was being tested to see if he lived in God or if he was fearful. But Nanak wasn’t scared at all. He calmly watched the demons and felt at peace. When they couldn’t scare him, the demons tried something else. They decided to offer him lots of riches. They showed him beautiful gold, rubies and jewels of all kinds. They said “There’s nothing wrong, just take it, you deserve it, just take it. It is yours” He was being tested to see if he would desire money. But Nanak kew what was happening and he could not be tricked. He just smiled and let them keep talking. Then the demons offered him power, “People will love you, you make anyone do anything you want, you can do whatever you like, everyone will obey you. You will be like a great king and everyone will worship you. Anything you want will just happen.” Nanak didn’t move. He saw right through them. He knew it was just a trick and he just kept meditating on God.
Next they showed him magic powers. They said, “You could do magic, you could make yourself invisible; you could fly; you could do all kinds of amazing things.” Nanak just laughed and said “Only a fool would take these things.” They offered every wonderful thing in the world but Nanak wasn’t fooled for one second. The demons went away and Nanak went to bathe in the river. Then... he disappeared and no one saw him.
He was gone for a very long time. People started walking up and down the river calling, “Nanak, Nanak where are you? Nanak, Nanak?”

He was gone for a very long time. People started walking up and down the river calling, “Nanak, Nanak where are you? Nanak, Nanak?”
But Nanak was in bliss and was merging with God. The universe revealed all its secrets to him. He drank divine nectar.
He heard a voice say, “I am.” It was the voice of God. “You are filled with joy. All who follow you will be happy. Don’t let your mind get dirty from anything in this world. Recite the Naam, share it with others. Be kind to everyone. I am God of the universe and you must now go and teach.” Guru Nanak was completely merged with God.
After three days he came out of the river. People were surprised to see him alive. They thought he had drowned.
He said “There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim. Everyone is the same.Everyone is a child of God." Then he spoke the Mool Mantra and the rest of Japji. His work had begun. He was now 'Guru' Nanak.”

Guru Nanak took with him as his companions a Muslim musician Mardana Ji and a Hindu peasant Bhai Bala and the three started travelling together to teach from village to village.
Guru Nanak’s wife, Bibi Sulakhani, started crying and said, “Don’t leave me alone.” He touched her on the forehead and her third eye opend. She saw how the world was in pain. She understood what Nanak had to do. She said, “It’s true, you must go. The world is on fire and you must put it out.” So they left to spread the message of the One in everyone.
Story of Guru Nanak Dev Ji And The Leper
During his first Udasi - preaching odyssey - Guru Nanak Devji, along with Bhai Mardana, visited Goindwal, now in district Amritsar, where a leper was kicked out of his village because he had the deadly disease leperosy. He was moved out and even his wife, mother, children and friends deserted him. He had been centre of attention of these relations and now they had all abandoned him. Why won't they? No one wanted to catch leperosy as anyone who comes near a leper catches this terrible disease. They used to throw roti ones a day outside his small hut and leave. Some days they forgot to give him roti altogether.
This leper was very heart-broken and was totally feeling dejected. Then he had a wonderful dream. His good karma from previous lives had awakened. He saw the most beautiful person who had an amazing glow on his face with another beautiful person with similar glow on his face. He heard a voice that this person is Guru Nanak and is the only person capable of cutting his misery.
The next morning he felt a new energy in his body. He started calling out Guru Nanak Dev jee. He started remembering him day and night. How could Guru Sahib hold back to the pleas of a person calling him from heart? He himself came to the door of that leper one rainy day. He came to that door where no one dared to come for fear of catching leperosy. Guru Nanak Sahib instructed Bhai Mardana jee to bring the leper outside in the rain.
Bhai Mardana a great Sikh did not question Guru Sahib for asking him to touch a leper. He readily went inside and brought the trembling leper outside. With one graceful glance, Guru Sahib cured him of his disease. He fell at the feet of Guru Sahib and asked for Naam medicine. Guru Sahib lifted the blessed ex-leper and gave him amrit-naam. That day in one moment, the fortunate leper, was cured of all his mental, bodily and spiritual diseases. He became one with the Guru.
So great is our Guru. May Guru Sahib do kirpa on us too and give us his amrit naam.

"Vahe Guru" is the Guru Mantra for the followers of Guru Nanak. The other important Mantra for repetition is:
"Ek Omkar Satnam Karta Purkh Nirbhav Nirvair, Akalmurat Ajuni Savai Bhang Gur Parsad—
God is but one, His Name is true, He is the Creator, He pervades the whole universe, He is without fear, He is without enmity, He is immortal, He is birthless, He is self-born and self-existent, He is the remover of the darkness (of ignorance) and He is merciful". The Lord is eternal. He has no beginning and no end.
To remain a Faithful one is but the Grace of Baba
The All-Pervading Divinity would be watching all that is happening at every nook and corner of the universe. With the sun and moon as His two eyes, none could hide anything from God. When we believe in Baba, it is absolutely necessary to be obedient to Him. We must do what Baba wants us to do with unquestioning obedience. Many would think that it is something great. But, it is not enough. We have to be loyal and faithful and have to behave in such a way that God trusts our sincerity and devotion. He knows all, not only things that we hide from others but also things hid in the deepest caverns of our hearts. It would be difficult to claim loyalty when several things are kept secret and not confessed either before a teacher or Sadguru. It is not enough to do what Baba taught us, but should be able to keep off from forbidden things. There should not be anything like thinking or doing by oneself. We should treat Baba as our Master and serve Him like a loyal servant. Dog serves its master with absolute loyalty. Even if the master insults or hurts it, the dog never leaves him. It always waits for his command and never does anything by itself and master is everything to the dog. Such dedicated service is the mark of true loyalty. Only God's Grace can turn such a devotee to the dedicated service of Sai Baba.
