Very few people know that since I went to a catholic school, - visiting chapils, praying to Lord Jesus was something that I did on my daily basis during school. And so even now, going to churches and praying whenever I see a cross on the roadside , is something that I am used to doing. I , personally beleive that all Gods are One and just like we have different languages to communicate with each other, we have different Gods to whom we pray or have faith in but the truth is no matter which language you use to communicate with the Lord- The meaning stays the same.! The devotion stays the same ! The faith in the allmighty and His strange miracles remain the same! So today lets continue with our teerth yatra, and lets all go to Brazil to witness the statue of Christ the Redeemer .
Deepa H
The statue is 39.6 meters (130 ft) tall, including its 9.5 meter (31 feet) pedestal, and 30 meters (98 ft) wide. It also weighs about 635 tons.
The Christ The Redeemer statue is located in the Corcovado Mountain which is at a peak of 700 meters i.e. 2,300 feet in the Tujuca forest National Park overlooking the city. (which is the largest urban park in the world).
It was in 1850’s when for the first time it was suggested to make the statue of Christ on the top of Carcovado by a catholic priest called Pedro Maria Boss. The request of the finance was sent to Princess Isabel to build this huge religious mountain. Initially, the idea was not thought to be a very good one. It was only in 1921, when a need and a proposal of a large landmark were thought about and finally the statue was made by the catholic Circle of Rio.
During this time, in order to gain more publicity, a group organized an event for a week where donations were taken from the public and signatures were taken for those who were in favor of the making of the statue. Most of the donations came from the Brazilian Catholics. A lot of suggestions were given; some suggest that the cross of the Christ should be represented along with Christ, or an idol of Jesus with a globe in his hands. But finally, a statue of Jesus with open arms was chosen. It is a symbol of peace as well.Construction of this religious symbol took nine years to complete, beginning in 1922 and ending in 1931.
It can be seen in the video for Janet Jackson's, "Runaway" and in the video for the Latin group Wisin & Yandel's "Pam Pam" video. The statue is also found in an episode of the Lupin the Third anime series. It is also seen in the Twilight series, as Edward is on the phone with Jacob in a pivotal scene of New Moon. It is also shown on the MTV show Viva La Bam in which Bam Margera battled Don Vito to win a $1000. It is also in Mr. Magoo. A parody of the statue is also seen in World of Warcraft on an island called Janerio's Point, the statue was damaged in the Cataclysm revealing a heart filled with riches.
To err is human. Although we commit a mistake in hurry, we have to admit it, repent for it and resolve to correct our behaviour. We do mistakes in a fit of anger. But, if we have devotion and faith in God, we can slowly change ourselves. Without devotion we would not believe in sin and merit. Baba used to mend the evil mind of those who came to Him and put them on the right path. Baba took pity on those who arrogantly justified their wrong doings, set their minds right and put them on the path of upright conduct. The wife of an atheist was a pious lady. But, her husband did not respect her deep spirituality. He was angry at his wife as he thought she neglected his comforts and attended to Baba's worship. Baba should have got angry with the behaviour of the husband. But He did not, as his wife was His devotee and prayed to Him to pardon her husband and mend him. Baba decided to fulfil His devotee's desire. The reason for hatred towards God is ignorance, pride and attachment. All these three things will alienate man from God. One who prides himself and thinks that none would match him may get scared when faced by problems and troubles. It is indeed the play of Baba to humble the human pride. Devotees like Sapatnekar, who did not believe in Baba, later sought refuge at the feet of Baba.
Quote of BABA:
Let the world go topsy-turvey, you remain where you are. Standing or staying in your own place, look on calmly at this show of all things passing before you.
