Ganga Dashara
Ganga Dashara, also known as Maa Ganga Dashara, is a 10-day festival dedicated to Goddess Ganga (River Ganga or Ganges). In 2011, Ganga Dashara festival date is from June 2 to June 11. The festival is celebrated during the first ten days of the Jyeshta Month (May – June) – the first 10 days during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon).
It is believed that Goddess Ganga touched the earth on the 10th day of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshta (June 11, 2011). Legend has it that King Bhagirath performed intense austerities to bring down Ganga on to earth so that his ancestors are relieved of their sins. Finally, Ganga descended from heaven and Lord Shiva held Her in his matted locks so that the power of Goddess does not destroy the earth. She then traveled to earth purifying all that she touched.
Numerous ceremonies are held on the occasion including pujas, prayers and other rituals. In recent years, with human greed destroying and polluting Ganga, there are special meetings and padyatras held on the occasion to highlight the importance of Ganga and the need to protect it.
It must be noted that the day Ganga descended on earth is observed differently in different regions. In some regions it is observed as Ganga Saptami and in some regions on the Akshaya Tritiya day.

Gayatri Jayanti
Gayatri Jayanti celebrates the manifestation of Goddess Gayatri, who is worshipped as Veda Mata (The Mother of Vedas). In 2011, the date of Gayatri Jayanti is June 11. Scholars also indicate that Sage Vishwamitra first uttered the Gayatri Mantra on the Jyeshta Shukla Ekadasi day. And this day is observed as Gayatri Jayanti day. Goddess Gayatri is also referred as Adi Shakti by Gayatri Mata worshippers.
It is believed that Goddess Gayatri made her appearance on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) of Jyeshta month. Symbolically, she appeared in the form of knowledge to remove the ignorance. This knowledge was shared to the world by Sage Vishwamitra.
Gayatri Jayanti day is observed by making special prayers and pujas to Gayatri Mata. Special satsangs are also held on the day. Goddess Gayatri is invoked in three forms as Ved Mata, Dev Mata and Vishwa Mata.
Goddess Gayatri worship is more of a community affair. Groups of people who are worshippers of Goddess Gayatri gather in a place and offer prayers and pujas under the leadership of a Guru or an elderly person. Chanting of Gayatri mantra is also held on the day.
C.B. Satpathy: BABA May I Answer
I am coming from Toronto and want to visit Shirdi. Can you tell me when and how to go to Shirdi? What are the activities that I should do in a limited time of one or two days of stay in Shirdi?
Usually whenever devotees used to visit Shirdi at the time of Baba or even today they get into a series of activities and get less time to sleep. The pleasant atmosphere of festivity at Shirdi from early morning, about 4 am to midnight about 12 pm keeps them fully occupied. Some people visiting Shirdi, even spend the whole night meditating on Baba. You should definitely attend the four aratis (Kakad arati 4:30 am, Madhyan Arati 12:00, Dhoop Arati at sunset, Sheja Arati at 10:30 pm). Visit the Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamayi Masjid, Chavadi, Gurusthan, Khandoba mandir, Hanuman mandir, Lendi Bagh, Nandadeep, Shani mandir, Ganpati mandir and meditation hall of the Sansthan. One should offer Chaddar, Coconut, Prashad etc. at the Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamayi and at other places. One can also purchase books, magazines, photographs and audio-video materials on Baba as they are available in plenty for future use and distribution. They can even read ‘Shri Sai Satcharitra’ in the parayan kakshya.

At times, even the greatest people face toughest situations. When the devotees of Baba are caught in between situations like 'the devil and the deep sea,' they would not hasten to overcome them. They pray to Baba to help them in crossing it. They would wait with patience till help reaches them. They know that Baba's help would come to them at the right time. But, whether one should wait minutes, hours or days will be decided by Baba. Sometimes the nature of ego "myself" will provoke a man to feel impatient. So, we should not hasten to conclude that help is not forthcoming. We should sincerely wait with patience and tolerance till the situation improves. Baba is the Omniscient and is present everywhere. It is He, who decides what work to be done and at what time. Do we continue the car journey when a thick blanket of fog envelops the path? If a valley is noticed on the side and thick fog in front, people with presence of mind and endurance would stop the car and wait till the fog melts away. Likewise, if we patiently wait for Baba's help in times of trouble, the problems would melt like snow. Our path of life becomes trouble-free. Baba used to ask the devotees to offer two coins, viz, faith and patience. Having faith in Baba, if we wait patiently, He will guide us safely and successfully to reach our destination.
