The Maheshwaris are a business community and there is a popular legend that it was Lord Shiva who had rescued the ancestors of the community. Maheshwaris are worshippers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and Mahesh Jayanti is believed to be the day Maheshwari Community was formed.
Legend has it that from a village near Jaipur in Rajasthan more than 50 men had gone on hunting along with the Royal party. The hunters accidentally ventured into an ashram and disturbed the tranquility and peace there. The sages there cursed the hunters and turned them into stone.
The wives of the unfortunate hunters prayed to Lord Shiva for the removal of the curse. Lord Shiva agreed to rescue them provided they stopped hunting and involved in some other vocation like business. The women agreed and all the men were rescued.
The rescued hunters and their family gave up hunting and concentrated on business and they named their community as the Maheshwari community. Mahesh is another name of Lord Shiva.
It is believed that this happened on the ninth day (Navami) during the Jyeshta Shukla Paksha (May –June) – waxing phase of moon in Jyeshta month.

C.B. Satpathy: BABA May I Answer
My mummy and papa are very fond of Baba. Through them I have developed some love for Baba. But does He love children as parents do?
At Shirdi, Baba was very fond of children. Most of the children at Shirdi used to go to Baba and get sweetmeats. Some children used to get money from Him. Baba always forbade the elder persons or the parents to ill treat or beat the children. Once when Shyama, chased his son Uddhav, the child ran to Baba and took shelter behind Him. Baba told Shyama that his son will henceforth, not go to the school but will serve Him (Baba) throughouthis life. This is exactly what happened in the life of Uddhav. Baba’s promise to protect and guide His devoteeseven after leaving His mortal body includes children.

Karma has two meanings. One is 'action' and the other is the 'result of such action'. When we do a work, besides physical result, the sins and virtues associated with it shall be ours. It does happen because we are attached to the sense of duty and the feeling that 'I am doing it'. God promises 'I shall shoulder your responsibility when you give up karma'. Giving up 'karma', does not mean sitting idle or without doing any work. Even if the hands and limbs do not work, something has to be fed into the mouth. So whatever work we do, we should think 'God is making me do it. I am not the one doing it, but only a tool of God to accomplish His purpose'. Baba explained the teachings of Lord Krishna to Arjuna in a lucid manner to Mhalsapathy. Thus, giving up of 'feeling of doing' is the sacrifice of the fruit of effort or actions. The moment we think in such a manner, the result of action will be Baba's only, and not ours. We should cultivate the habit of remembering His name, meditating on Him and performing duties according to His Will. We can cultivate the spirit of disinterested action (not interested in the fruits of one's efforts) by regular practice. It is Baba who commands, activates and makes us do a work and rewards us. Such a state of mind must be cultivated. Then, like Prahlada, we too could feel God's presence in every atom of the Universe.
