C.B. Satpathy: BABA May I Answer
I am always imagining about Sai Baba, but I do not know how He looked like. Please can you
tell me how he looked like?
A few photographs of Baba and the paintings (particularly those by Jayakar who had painted Baba in real life) and others give some idea of how He looked like. During His first visit to Shirdi in the in the fifth decade of the nineteenth century, He had curly hair, golden hue in His well formed and sportsman like body. His height was about 5 feet 8 inches or above. His feet and hands were longer than His body. His eyes had bluish tinge. Later He became bald. He always sported a thick mustache and got His beard trimmed. He had a powerful but kind look.
His gazes were piercing as if He could read the mind. (For more details please read the article “What BabaLooked Like” in the book “Shirdi Sai Baba and other Perfect Masters”.)

If someone is suffering from a terrible disease, we comment that he is reaping sins of the past. But we also come across even righteous persons facing several physical and mental torments. The troubles are but tests of God to assess the degree of devotion, dedication and faith we have in Him. We can get rid of all sorts of troubles and get liberated by reposing faith in God without flouting the rules of right conduct. God's tests of trials that we pass through, will strengthen our spirit of obedience and devotion and help us intensify our spiritual practices. We know the gravity of grief or problems when we personally experience them. We could then judge the grief of those who are facing similar trouble. We will serve them with love and sympathy. As God Wills, the hardships we undergo are for our own good. But, by arrogant nature, some people invite troubles and foolishly complain to God, "why such troubles when I am treading the path of spirituality". Remember, Baba never harms anyone. We need to introspect and rectify our wrong doings. Sufferings faced by those following the righteous path are part and parcel of spiritual Sadhana. They strengthen our courage and devotion and will not cause any harm. Faith alone makes us go ahead and reach the destination.
