Kheer Bhavani Temple
Khir Bhavani Mela, also known as Kshir Bhawani Yatra, is the annual festival held at the temple of Mata Khir Bhawani in Tulla Mulla village in Jammu and Kashmir. Khir Bhavani Mela 2011 date is June 9. It is observed on the Ashtami day during Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of moon in Jyestha month (June – July).
Kheer Bhawani is a temple dedicated to the goddess Kheer Bhawani (originally just Bhawani) constructed over a sacred spring .The worship of Kheer Bhawani is universal among the Hindus of Kashmir. The temple is situated at a distance of 14 miles east of Srinagar near the village of Tula Mula. The term kheer refers to the food used to propitiate the goddess, which became part of the name. As is the custom with Hindu deities, she has many names: Maharagya Devi, Ragnya Devi, Rajni, Ragnya Bhagwati, and so on.
Kheer Bhavani temple is devoted to Ragnya Devi, a Hindu Goddess. Representing the goddess is a sacred hexagonal spring at Tullamula village, which houses a small marble temple. The legend associated with the temple goes that Lord Rama worshipped Ragnya Devi during his exile. After the exile period got over, Rama asked Lord Hanuman to shift the seat of the goddess. The seat of the goddess was brought by Lord Hanuman first to Shadipora and later shifted to the site where the temple now stands. It is believed that it was the wish of Mother Ragnya that her seat be place at Khir Bhavani Mandir in Kashmir, India. And this wish was conveyed in dream to a pandit, Rugnath Gadroo.
According to another legend Maharagya was pleased with the devotion of Ravana and appeared before him and Ravana got an image of the goddess installed in Sri Lanka. But the goddess became displeased with the vicious and licentious life of Ravana and so didn't want to stay in Sri Lanka. Therefore, under the command of the goddess, Hanuman got the image from Sri Lanka and installed it at the holy spot of Tula Mulla.
The mention of Kheer Bhawani is found in Kalhana's Rajtarangini. Kalhana writes that the sacred spring of Tula Mula is situated in a marshy ground. The name of the spring is Mata Ragini Kund.
The temple of Ragnya Devi is called "Kheer Bhawani" because numerous devotees offer milk and kheer (Indian sweet dish) to the sacred spring. It is believed that milk and kheer turn to black color to warn of any impending disaster. Maharaja Pratap Singh got the temple constructed in 1912. Later, Maharaja Hari Singh undertook the repair and restoration work on the temple.
My humble pranams to The Goddess in an Atmalinga form at Kheer Bhawani temple.May this Goddess remove all the impurities from our hearts and minds and make us as pure and innocent as a new born child.

What is the relevance of Sai’s teachings in today’s world?
Although volumes can be written on His magnanimous personality yet the most important preachings of Sai Baba of Shirdi that are relevant in today’s world are:
Love towards all including animals, birds and insects: Baba used to feed dogs even before He partook of His meals. He had equal sympathy for His horse Shyamkarna and other animals around Him at Shirdi. He extended His love even to a useless rock which He used for washing clothes or at times used to sit on it. Today that rock can be seen in Dwarkamai and is worshipped by devotees who come there. To a great extent devotees are following such preachings of Baba. People are seen distributing clothes, food, etc. to the poor. Narayana seva is going on all over the world in various Sai centers.
Religious tolerance: Shirdi Sai Baba looked after the Hindus, Muslims, Parsees equally. We can find people of all religions visiting His Samadhi temple even now. He always believed in the peaceful co-existence of all species. In today’s world there is a lot of intolerance among the people of various religions and sects. People must believe that all human faiths may be different but the goal is one. Shirdi Sai devotees are equal before God. At Baba’stime Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Parsees and Christians, etc. used to share their views and talk with each other like real brothers in Shirdi. They firmly believe that flowers may be many but the God to whom the flowers are offered is one. Stars may be many but light is one. Similarly paths may be different but the goal is the same.
Social Harmony: Shirdi Sai never allowed people to have ill feelings towards each other on the basis of socialdifferentiations as caste, creed etc. People of all religions and castes used to have food together, sleep together, hug each other and share Hukka. When they felt loathsome to do the same He castigated them and told themeverything is Atma. If they hated them then they are in fact hating Him who is residing in them. People whobelieve in Baba should follow the same thing. Treat all mankind as brothers and live happily. Believe inbrotherhood of mankind under the fatherhood of God.

God who dwells in our hearts, as the Inner Ruler, has been communicating with us in whispers. We just need to cultivate the habit of listening, with our psychic ears wide awake, and with a devout heart. Now and then He would let us know His message in audible words. If we could establish communion with the All-pervading Universal Soul, we get clear messages from that powerful source. God would fully occupy our heart and keep reminding us of our duty. If we faithfully pray to God seeking solutions to our problems, then the first thought that flashes in our mind would be in a way the solution suggested by God. As such, they will prove to be effective at any time.It is but common for the humans to have desires and problems. But, they do not have enough energy to match with the magnitude of their problems. God has infinite power, devoid of any desire. If our desires are surrendered to His feet, then His power envelops our intellect. So, when we are in a confused state as to what to do next, it is enough to remember Baba who is there within us to respond instantly. Like a flash, we get response from Him as to which direction we have to turn to, what is good or bad and the do's and don'ts. Baba decides what we deserve and hands it over as required. When we follow the silent instructions of Sai, we get good results in any work.
